Reverse osmosis filters are quite popular nowadays, actually they can safely be considered some of the most popular water filters in existence today. They safely catch most of the impurities that otherwise pass through the water. It safely gets rid of 98% of dissolved solids, minerals, metals and various harmful agents for our health.

The reverse osmosis filters use a two step process to filter successfully your drinking water: through pre-filtering stage and through post-filtering stage.

The pre-filtering stage you have a special filter that removes sediments found in the water. These pre-filters are supposed to work together with the carbon filters, which usually get rid of organic substances in the water. Also they use a semi-permeable membrane. This is what is called the post-filter. Basically this filters out everything else that the pre-filtering process could not catch. This membrane has extremely small holes that won't let the various particles that are in the water to pass through. This means that bacteria is also prevented from going through. What happens is that the bacteria will instead stick to the surface of the membrane of your filter. The good thing is that you don't need to maintain a lot this particular component as it is done all automatically due to the water's cross flow during the purification process.
